Each Triazzle has graphic elements that cross over its three edges onto the adjacent pieces that contain the entire puzzle. The pieces vary from nine to 24 pieces. The object is simple to assemble with all the images matching, but it can be a difficult challenge. The puzzles can be assembled down to the last one or two pieces and be totally incorrect forcing the player to begin again. You remove the pieces from the game board and mix them up but then replace them so that each picture matches. Once you have taken it apart it is not easy to put them back together again in exactly the same way but once you do you will be rewarded with the challenge of getting them back in place again. The Best of Triazzle is packaged in a sturdy decorate box. Also available is a magnetic travel Triazzle designed in a plastic box with a plain easel and new themes. The designs are beautiful, fun to play with, challenging and rewarding. The interesting information on the back of the puzzle itself calls attention to the different types of fish that are part of the picture. For example,” the underwater sunlight transforms the Randall’s Basslet from a dull brownish gray to a brilliant violet red and the clown fish is immune from the sting of the sea anemone hiding among its poisonous tentacles.” These and other tidbits are part of the fun of playing with the Triazzle.

The Triazzle was invented in 1991 by Dan Gilbert, a graphic artist and product designer as a request from the National Aquarium in Baltimore to create something special for a new poison arrow frog exhibit. When the DaMert Company saw the prototype they knew it was right for them. They went to work on the first three puzzles. Within a few years they had produced dozens of designs and themes of frogs, insects, space dinosaurs, fish, and rainforest. Other products were expanded taking the theme into Master Triazzle with more pieces, Triazzle Junior for younger children, six-pointed star Triazzles and tiny Triazzles and Travel Triazzles. Dan Gilbert the Triazzle designer says “kids like to move things around and have little fear. And are willing to mess up what they have and reach solutions quicker”.
