The classic measures nine and three quarters by eight by one and three quarters. You can find a pocket Etch a Sketch that fits into a pocket and is easy to play with. In addition you can find Hot Pocket Etch a Sketch with different color, pink, green, and blue. There is also a jelly color pocket Etch a Sketch and a travel Etch a Sketch that allows child to play in the car and is easy to take along. In the late 1950’s Arthur Granjean developed the invention. Ohio Art discovered his invention at the international toy fair in Germany in 1959 and decided to produce the product. When it was ready in 1960 it soon became an overnight success. The technology over the years has changed very little. The screen’s reverse side is coated with a mixture of aluminum powder and plastic beads. The left and right knobs control the horizontal and vertical movements moving the stylus up, down, right, and left. When you turn both knobs at once you can produce diagonals and curves. Those that become more experienced have perfect techniques. An Etch a Sketch club formed in 1978 and now there are over 35,000 members. The company says this is the world’s first laptop. It was manufactured exclusively in Bryan, Ohio until recently.
